  • Other principles specific to the insulation industry, including air and vapour barriers, sealants and adhesives, home ventilation, various types of insulation products, and relevant codes and guidelines

Objectives

  • Identify relevant building science principles in relation to heat, air, and moisture flow
  • Define the building envelope and identify critical barriers
  • Identify house-as-a-system components and how they interact
  • Recognize the principles of heat flow and control in a house system specific to an insulation retrofit
  • Identify commonly used insulation products and the pros and cons of each
  • Understand the relative thermal resistance of different types of insulation products
  • Recognize characteristics that define high performance windows and how they should be integrated into the broader building envelope
  • Discuss how air barriers are used to seal homes
